Catnip Essential Oil
Nepeta cataria
Catnip (Nepeta cataria) is steam distilled from the aerial parts of the plant, and ours comes from France, certified organic or organically grown. The aroma is sweet, herbaceous, and a little floral, sitting as a middle note in a blend.
What makes this oil so distinctive is its lactone content. The nepetalactone isomers dominate, averaging about 85% of the oil across our batches, though the balance between the individual isomers shifts quite a bit from distillation to distillation. Alongside them you'll find the sesquiterpene beta-caryophyllene, typically 4.6-6.1% in our batches. Catnip is loved in aromatherapy for its insect-repelling character, its soothing anti-inflammatory quality, and the way it supports emotional balance.
Every batch we bring in is independently GC-MS tested, and the full report for each one lives right here on this page.
