Peru Balsam Oleoresin

Peru Balsam Oleoresin

Myroxylon balsamum var. pereirae

Peru Balsam is the aromatic resin of Myroxylon balsamum var. pereirae, a tree in the pea family. Ours is wildcrafted in El Salvador and comes to us as a thick, pourable oleoresin with a sweet, warm, resinous aroma that settles into the base of a blend.

The chemistry is mostly esters, close to 70% of the whole. Benzyl benzoate leads at about 44% in our recent batch, with benzyl cinnamate near 26% and (E)-cinnamic acid around 13%. This is the profile Peru Balsam is loved for in skin care, where it helps soothe and protect skin that feels irritated, and supports skin regeneration. The aroma itself is grounding and emotionally balancing, which is why it shows up so often in perfume blends.

Every batch we bring in is independently GC-MS tested, and the full report for each one lives right here on this page.
