Cedarwood Indian Essential Oil
Cedrus deodara
Cedarwood Indian essential oil is distilled from the wood of Cedrus deodara, a Himalayan conifer. Ours is wildcrafted in India, and our batches come to us either steam distilled or hydro distilled. The aroma is warm and woodsy, earthy with a balsamic base.
The chemistry here is mostly sesquiterpenes, close to 58% of the oil on average. β-himachalene leads the way, typically 25-37% in our batches, with α-himachalene around 10-15% and γ-himachalene around 6-10%. A ketone fraction (the atlantones and their relatives) averages about 17%. This is an oil people reach for when they want quiet: it's valued in aromatherapy as an expectorant and mucolytic, and it's well suited to supporting restful sleep and soothing everyday aches and discomfort.
