Makrut Lime Peel Essential Oil
Citrus hystrix
Makrut Lime Peel oil (Citrus hystrix) is steam distilled from the bumpy rind of the fruit, and ours comes from wildcrafted trees in Thailand. The aroma is sweet, fresh, and citrusy, sitting more like a middle note than a bright top note.
The chemistry is mostly monoterpenes, around 69% of the oil. D-limonene runs typically 20-28% in our batches, and it is loved for its antioxidant and antimicrobial character and its support for skin. What makes Makrut different from other limes is how much β-pinene it carries, typically 18-24%, which is associated with antifungal and antispasmodic properties. There is a nice bit of monoterpenol here too, with terpinen-4-ol around 9-11% and α-terpineol around 7-11%.
Every batch we bring in is independently GC-MS tested, and the full report for each one lives right here on this page.
