St. John's Wort Essential Oil
Hypericum perforatum
St. John's wort essential oil is steam distilled from the small yellow flowers of Hypericum perforatum. Ours comes from certified organic and organically grown plants in Bulgaria, and it carries an earthy, rich, herbal aroma.
The chemistry here is unusual. The biggest component isn't a terpene at all. It's 2-methyloctane, typically 21-49% in our batches. After that come the monoterpenes, with α-pinene typically 13-20% and β-pinene 4-7%. α-Pinene is appreciated for its antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory character. As a whole, this oil is known for shifting the heart from discouragement and stress toward confidence and optimism. It's also a comforting one to keep close if you bump into the table, or to use regularly to nurture sore joints.
Every batch is independently GC-MS tested, and the full report for each batch lives right here on this page.
