Citronella Java Essential Oil

Citronella Java Essential Oil

Cymbopogon winterianus

Citronella Java is steam distilled from the grass of Cymbopogon winterianus. Ours comes from Indonesia, organically grown and wildcrafted, with the sweet, woodsy, fresh, lemony aroma this oil is known for.

The chemistry leads with citronellal, an aldehyde, typically 31-49% in our batches. Right behind it are two monoterpenols, geraniol (usually 14-26%) and citronellol (around 9-13%). Geraniol and citronellal are the pair Citronella Java is loved for, and they give the oil its calming character. Monoterpenols as a family are appreciated for being gentle and skin-supportive. Citronella Java is also a favorite for natural insect repellency, and natural perfumers reach for it because the scent is softer and smoother than you might expect.

Every batch we bring in is independently GC-MS tested, and the full report for each batch lives right here on this page.
