Melissa Essential Oil
Melissa officinalis
Melissa is steam distilled from the flowering tops of Melissa officinalis. Ours comes from certified organic growing in Bulgaria. The aroma is fresh and lemony, with a herbaceous, softly rosy floral edge.
That lemony quality comes from two aldehydes, geranial and neral (together known as citral). Geranial averages around 23% in our batches, and neral typically falls between 8-22%. There's also a good amount of the sesquiterpene β-caryophyllene, reaching 25% in some batches. Aldehydes as a family make up close to 45% of the oil on average. Melissa is valued for its antimicrobial and antifungal properties, and it's a favorite of mine in blends for immune support. It's potent, so a drop or two is usually plenty.
Every batch is independently GC-MS tested, and each batch's full report lives right here on this page.
