Mentha arvensis
Corn Mint, also called Wild Mint, comes to us steam distilled from the leaves of organically grown Mentha arvensis in India. The aroma is fresh and minty, a middle-top note that reads as cool the moment you open the bottle.
That coolness is menthol, and there is a lot of it. Menthol typically runs 65-75% in our batches, with menthone around 5-8% and isomenthone about 3-8%. This is a monoterpenol-dominant oil with a supporting cast of ketones. Corn Mint is valued in aromatherapy for its analgesic, antispasmodic, carminative, and antibacterial properties, and mints like this one help clear germs from the skin. Because the menthol content is so high, I use it in small amounts and keep it out of the bath or shower.

GC-MS analysis of this batch identified 77 components. Menthol leads at 72.5 percent, followed by menthone at 7.91 percent and neomenthol at 2.45 percent. Batch PEA-113 is menthol-forward even by this oil's standards: 72.5% menthol sits near the top of the 64.51-74.77% we have recorded across our batches, and the monoterpenol family totals 77.62%. The ketones are the interesting part. Menthone at 7.91% edges just past our previous high of 7.8%, while isomenthone runs 2.42%, below the 3.24% floor we have seen. That reduced-to-oxidized pairing points to a distillation caught with the menthone-to-menthol conversion well along. The rest is a long tail: 77 components, with menthyl acetate at 2.05% sitting alongside its parent alcohol, plus menthofuran (2.17%) and a green-smelling trace of (Z)-3-hexenyl isovalerate at 0.49%.
