Lemongrass Essential Oil
Cymbopogon flexuosus
Lemongrass is a tall, fragrant grass, and the oil comes from steam distilling that grass. Ours is Cymbopogon flexuosus, grown organically or wildcrafted in India and Nepal, with a herbaceous, lemony aroma that lands in the middle-top of a blend.
What makes Lemongrass smell the way it does is citral, which is really two aldehydes working together: geranial (typically 30-48% in our batches) and neral (typically 26-35%). Aldehydes make up around three quarters of this oil. Citral is the part of Lemongrass loved for its antifungal and anti-inflammatory character, and it is a big reason Lemongrass shows up in natural insect repellent blends. Small amounts of geraniol (about 2-10%) round out the aroma. Citral-rich oils can irritate skin, so dilute Lemongrass well.
Every batch we bring in is independently GC-MS tested, and each full report lives right here on this page.
