Balm of Gilead Infused Olive Oil
Populus balsamifera
Balm of Gilead is the resin held in the buds of the balsam poplar, or cottonwood, tree (Populus balsamifera). We handcraft this oil ourselves in Montana, covering organically grown buds and twigs with certified organic extra virgin olive oil and letting them infuse for months, three times over. Every batch we have logged has come from the USA, organically grown and infused.
The finished oil is a translucent, amber, slightly viscous liquid with a warm, slightly resinous aroma. It is soluble in oil and alcohol, so it blends easily into massage oils, salves, and butters. Cottonwood buds have a long history of use for muscles, joints, and skin, and this infusion is gentle and comforting in those kinds of blends. Shelf life is about two years.
Every batch is logged on this page with its origin and best-by date, with certificates of analysis available for download where we have them.
