Castor Oil
Ricinus communis
Castor oil is cold pressed from the seeds of Ricinus communis. Every batch we have logged, ten of them going back to 2016, has come from India, from certified organic or organically grown plants.
It is a light yellow, slightly viscous liquid with a light aroma. It dissolves in oil and alcohol, but not in water, so it blends easily into other carrier oils and butters. Castor oil brings depth and richness to a blend, and it has natural conditioning properties. It is a favorite in hair and scalp oils, where it works quietly alongside lighter carriers, and it has long been trusted in warm packs for supporting digestive function. Stored well, it keeps for about four years. A patch test is a good idea.
Every batch is recorded on this page with its origin and best-by date, and certificates of analysis are available to download where we have them.
