Chamomile Cape Essential Oil
Eriocephalus punctulatus
Cape Chamomile is steam distilled from the small flowers of Eriocephalus punctulatus, and ours is wildcrafted in South Africa. The aroma is sweet, fruity, and a little earthy, which surprises people who expect it to smell like the other Chamomiles.
What makes this oil unusual is how much of it is esters, close to 63% on average across our batches. The two largest are 2-methylbutyl isobutyrate, typically 21-30% in our batches, and isobutyl isobutyrate, typically 12-17%, with a little linalyl acetate alongside them. Ester-rich oils like this one are loved for being calming. Cape Chamomile is traditionally used to help the body relax and let go of tension, and it supports emotional balance in a soothing, uplifting way.
Every batch we bring in is independently GC-MS tested, and the full report for each one lives right here on this page.
