Cinnamon Leaf Essential Oil
Cinnamomum zeylanicum
Cinnamon Leaf oil comes from the leaves of Cinnamomum zeylanicum, steam distilled. Ours is grown in Madagascar, from organically grown and wildcrafted material. The aroma is sweet, warm, woodsy and spicy, softer than the bark.
The chemistry is dominated by one molecule: eugenol, typically 61-86% in our batches. Eugenol is the phenol people reach for when they want warming, comforting support after exertion, and it is valued for its analgesic and antispasmodic character. Behind it sit a small group of esters (benzyl benzoate and eugenyl acetate each running roughly 1-9%) and a little β-caryophyllene, about 1-4%. Eugenol also brings antioxidant and antimicrobial properties, which is why this oil turns up in cleaning blends as often as body blends.
Every batch we bring in is independently GC-MS tested, and the full report for each one lives right here on this page.
