Clove Bud Essential Oil

Clove Bud is steam distilled from the flower buds of Eugenia caryophyllata. Ours is wildcrafted, and over the years it has come to us from India, Indonesia, and Madagascar.

The chemistry here is dominated by one molecule: eugenol, a phenol, typically 69-85% in our batches. That's what gives Clove Bud its warm, spicy aroma and the antimicrobial and antioxidant character it's valued for. Eugenol is also loved for its warming, comforting quality in blends. Alongside it you'll find eugenyl acetate (an ester, roughly 3-14%) and β-caryophyllene (a sesquiterpene, up to about 10%). Clove Bud is a strong oil, so a little goes a long way.
