Kpangnan Butter

Kpangnan Butter

Pentadesma butyracea

Kpangnan butter (Pentadesma butyracea) is pronounced "pan-ya," which is a fun thing to know before you talk about it in class. The butter is cold pressed and then processed into the firm block you receive. Our batches have all come from wildcrafted trees in Togo and the wider West Africa region, gathered over several harvest years.

This is a deeply moisturizing butter, as moisturizing as shea in my experience, and it has a slight warming feel once it is smoothed onto the skin. Our own materials list it as skin regenerative, antioxidant, and tonic, and it is a gentle choice for soothing, skin-loving blends. It keeps well for about four years when stored cool and closed. A patch test for sensitivity is always a good idea.

Every batch we receive is logged on this page with its country of origin and best-by date, and any available certificates are there to download.
