Marula Oil
Sclerocarya birrea
Marula Oil (Sclerocarya birrea) is cold pressed from the seeds of the marula tree. Our batches have come from Botswana most often, with others from South Africa and Zimbabwe, grown certified organic, organically grown, or wildcrafted depending on the harvest.
It's a yellow, slightly viscous liquid with a slightly nutty aroma. It's soluble in oil and alcohol, and not soluble in water, so it blends easily with essential oils and other carriers. Marula is a nourishing oil with antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, skin regenerative, and tonic qualities, which is why it turns up so often in body oils and butters. Many people also reach for it as a supportive, reassuring presence during times of transition. Shelf life is about three years. A patch test for sensitivity is recommended.
Every batch we bring in is logged on this page with its country of origin and best-by date, and certificates of analysis are available to download where we have them.
