Myrrh Hydrosol

Myrrh Hydrosol

Commiphora myrrha

Myrrh Hydrosol (Commiphora myrrha) is steam distilled from resin. The tree secretes a rich sap when its trunk is injured, and that sap hardens into the resin that goes into the still. Our batches have come mostly from distillers in the USA, with a couple drawn from multiple origins, and the material has been either certified organic or wildcrafted.

It's a water-like liquid with a slightly resinous, balsamic aroma. In blending it acts like a grounding base note, adding depth and staying power. Our own material describes Myrrh Hydrosol as gentle, with skin regenerative, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial qualities, a mild way to support skin's natural renewal. It's soluble in both water and alcohol, so it blends easily into mists and other water-based preparations. Shelf life is about a year and a half.

Every batch we bring in is logged on this page with its origin and best-by date, and certificates of analysis are downloadable where we have them.
