Opopanax Hydrosol

Opopanax Hydrosol

Opopanax Hydrosol is made by hydro-distillation, and the water that comes off that distillation is collected and bottled as the hydrosol. The batches we have brought in so far have come from Somaliland, where the material is wildcrafted rather than farmed. It is a small, quiet product with a short sourcing history, and we log each batch as it arrives.

Like other hydrosols, this one is gentle. Hydrosols are a mild way to work with a plant, and they suit people who want something softer than an essential oil. Our own material on Opopanax describes it as soothing and skin regenerative, and that same character carries through here in a lighter form.

Every batch we receive is listed on this page with its country of origin and best-by date, and certificates of analysis are available to download where we have them.

Batch OPH-101 comes from Somaliland, where the resin is gathered by wildcrafters working trees that grow without cultivation in dry, sun-hard country. The material was hydro-distilled, and the water phase was collected as a hydrosol rather than treated as a by-product of oil production. The result is soft and resinous in aroma, warm and faintly sweet, gentler than the essential oil and easy to use as a facial mist, a room spray, or a base for compresses.

Hydro-distilled on January 30, 2024, this batch carries a best-by date of January 30, 2026, so it is being offered well inside its useful window.

As with every batch we bring in, the analytical paperwork for this specific lot, including its certificate of analysis, is posted here for you to download and read in full.
