Oregano Essential Oil
Origanum vulgare
Oregano essential oil (Origanum vulgare) is steam distilled from the leaves. Ours is certified organic and has come from Austria, India, and Spain over the years. The aroma is warm and radiant, herbaceous and spicy, with a camphoraceous edge.
This is a phenol-rich oil. Carvacrol leads by a wide margin, typically 65-78% in our batches, with a little thymol alongside it (about 3-5%). Those two components are why oregano has such a reputation as a germ-fighting oil, and carvacrol is the one researchers keep coming back to for its antimicrobial and antifungal character. You'll also see monoterpenes filling out the profile, mostly p-cymene (roughly 4-10%) and gamma-terpinene (about 2-9%). Oregano is also valued in aromatherapy for its antioxidant, expectorant, and digestive properties.
Every batch we bring in is independently GC-MS tested, and the full report for each one lives right here on this page.
