Cymbopogon martinii var. Motia

Palmarosa is a grass, though its aroma is sweet and rosy. Ours is steam distilled from Cymbopogon martinii var. motia grown in India, Nepal, and the Comoros Islands, both organically grown and wildcrafted.

This oil is really a monoterpenol oil. Geraniol runs high, typically 71-83% in our batches, and monoterpenols as a family are loved for being skin-supportive, gentle, and regulating for the nervous system. That is why palmarosa is a favorite in skincare blends and in work around emotional steadiness. Geranyl acetate, typically 7-14%, adds the calming, softening quality esters are known for, and a little linalool (about 1-5%) rounds it out.

Batch PRS-120 comes from organically grown palmarosa in India, steam distilled from the grassy tops of Cymbopogon martinii var. Motia in June 2026. The aroma is classic palmarosa: soft, rosy and sweet, with a green herbaceous lift underneath. GC-MS analysis of this batch identified 50 components. Geraniol leads at 75.38 percent, followed by geranyl acetate at 12.14 percent and linalool at 2.73 percent. That puts monoterpenols at just over 78 percent of the profile, a family long associated with gentle, skin-friendly character, while the ester fraction near 14 percent adds the calming, rounded sweetness palmarosa is loved for. Chemistry highlights

Geraniol at 75.38% anchors this batch of *Cymbopogon martinii* var. Motia, slightly below the 77.03% mean across our ten analyzed batches but comfortably inside the 70.58-82.96% span. The more interesting move is the ester side: geranyl acetate at 12.14% sits above our 10.62% average, and it brings a whole geranyl ester family with it (caproate 1.10%, butyrate 0.27%, caprylate 0.25%, formate 0.11%, isovalerate 0.05%). Alcohol and its acetate together account for 87.52% of PRS-120. Two small details worth a look. (Z,E)-farnesol reads 0.85%, above the 0.32-0.65% range we have logged for that isomer. And geraniol's oxidation and isomer partners are all here in trace: geranial 0.45%, neral 0.19%, nerol 0.17%, a tidy picture of the C10 pathway in one column.
