Red Palm Oil
Elaeis guineensis
Red Palm Oil (Elaeis guineensis) is cold pressed from the fruit of the palm. Our batches have come from wildcrafted trees in Togo and Ghana, with one sourced more broadly in West Africa.
It arrives as a bright orange semi solid substance with a mild nutty aroma, and it melts easily into body butters, balms, and salves. It is soluble in oils and alcohol, and insoluble in water. Oils pressed from this palm are emollient and cooling, and they are used to moisturize skin and soothe muscles and joints. They soften and lubricate the skin nicely. Shelf life is about three years. We recommend a patch test for sensitivity.
Every batch we bring in is logged on this page with its origin and best-by date, and certificates of analysis are available to download where we have them.
