Shea Butter
Vitellaria paradoxa (Butyrospermum parkii)
Shea Butter (Vitellaria paradoxa (butyrospermum parkii)) comes from the fruit of the karite tree, cold pressed and processed into the thick butter you know from balms and body butters. Our batches have come from Ghana and Togo, certified organic, organically grown, and wildcrafted. It arrives as a pale yellow solid butter with a nutty aroma, and it dissolves in oil and in alcohol.
Shea is known as an excellent moisturizer. It's soothing and antioxidant, and it supports the skin's own renewal, which is why it shows up in so many salves, lip balms, and whipped butters. It keeps well for about two years. A patch test for sensitivity is a good idea before you use it widely.
Every batch we bring in is logged on this page with its country of origin and best-by date, and certificates of analysis are available to download where we have them.
