Sitka Spruce Essential Oil
Picea sitchensis
Sitka Spruce (Picea sitchensis) is steam distilled from the needles, and ours comes from wildcrafted trees in Iceland. The aroma is woodsy, earthy, and piney, a top-middle note that settles a blend down.
Monoterpenes lead the profile, averaging around 59% across our batches. β-Myrcene is the largest single component, typically 21-28%, with β-phellandrene at 8-19% and a little α-pinene near 4-6%. Two ketones follow: piperitone, usually 6-14%, and camphor, which ranges more widely at 6-20%. Small amounts of esters like bornyl acetate round it out. This is the chemistry conifer needle oils are loved for, valued in aromatherapy for anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and antispasmodic properties, and comforting to reach for after exertion.
Every batch we bring in is independently GC-MS tested, and each batch's full report lives right here on this page.
