Spikenard Essential Oil
Nardostachys jatamansi
Spikenard is steam distilled from the roots and rhizomes of Nardostachys jatamansi, a plant in the Valerianaceae family. Ours is wildcrafted in Nepal. The aroma is sweet, woodsy, earthy, and a little spicy.
The chemistry leans hard on sesquiterpenes, which average around 42% of the oil across our batches. Valeranone, a ketone, turns up in every batch we've analyzed, typically 2-28%. Spirojatamol, a sesquiterpenol, has run about 4-25% in the batches where it appears. That deep, root-grown chemistry is why Spikenard is loved as a calming, grounding base note. It's valued in aromatherapy for its sedative, antispasmodic, and anti-inflammatory properties, and it gives a blend real depth and staying power.
Every batch is independently GC-MS tested, and each batch's full report lives right here on this page.
