Tamanu Oil
Calophyllum inophyllum
Tamanu oil is cold pressed from the seeds of Calophyllum inophyllum. Most of our batches have come from Madagascar, with a couple from India, and they have been either certified organic or wildcrafted. The production is fascinating, since the nuts are cured before the oil can be pressed from them.
It pours as a thick liquid with a light brown to greenish color, and the aroma is slightly nutty. It dissolves in oil and in alcohol. Tamanu is a nourishing carrier that aromatherapists reach for when skin needs extra care. It is considered anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and antifungal, and it is valued for its skin regenerative character. Shelf life is about four years. A patch test for sensitivity is a good idea.
Every batch we bring in is logged on this page with its origin and best-by date, and certificates of analysis are available to download where we have them.
