Tarragon Essential Oil

Tarragon Essential Oil is steam distilled from the leaves of Artemisia dracunculus, a member of the Asteraceae family. Our batches come from France and Mexico, some certified organic and some wildcrafted. The aroma is sweet and spicy, sitting somewhere between a top and middle note.

Tarragon is an ether-rich oil, and that shows up clearly in the reports. Estragole (methyl chavicol) runs high, typically 61-76% in our batches, with the monoterpenes filling in behind it: (Z)-beta-ocimene around 3-11%, (E)-beta-ocimene around 3-8%, and a little limonene near 3%. This is the chemistry tarragon is loved for in aromatherapy, where it is valued as antispasmodic, carminative, and quietly sedative. A settling, comforting oil.
